Between NYFF press screenings/Critics Academy work and school getting into the routine, I’ve been behind on reviews and on my capsules. I intend for that to change (and am working on a review right now), but I think that I should note that while my writing has slowed, my viewing has not slowed quite as much. So here are a slew of films I’ve seen recently that I most likely will not review for one reason or another but will get my opinion out on:
La Jetée (Chris Marker, 1962): A
Shattered Glass (Billy Ray, 2003): C
All That Heaven Allows (Douglas Sirk, 1955): B
Dogtooth (Giorgos Lanthimos, 2009): B+
The Long Goodbye (Robert Altman, 1973): B+
Paranormal Activity 4 (Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman): D
Angels With Dirty Faces (Michael Curtiz, 1938): B+
Blue Velvet (David Lynch, 1986): D+
Cloud Atlas (Andy & Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer, 2012): C+ (review, grade change possible)
Something In The Air (Olivier Assayas, 2012): B+
The Last Days of Disco (Whit Stillman, 1998): B
Contempt (Jean-Luc Godard, 1963): A
Talk To Her (Pedro Almodóvar, 2002): B+ (review possible)
The Seventh Continent (Michael Haneke, 1989): B (review possible)
I excluded NYFF films as I did ungraded recaps of most of them when I saw them, and may review them upon wider release.
